Pretty Faces
I have to blame and thank Chase Jarvis for the thought going through my head the past 12hrs.
I’ve been wanting to create a little photobook with some of my photos for a while now. I have a lot of photos in my archives but I didn’t think any of them would work well for a book idea. Mainly cause I didn’t think I had enough photos in a particular style or theme to make a decent try at the idea. The few times I have come up with a theme for a photobook it later didn’t feel like it was really me. Yeah, the photos were mine but the concept felt…forced. Until last night.
Lying in bed going through my emails I saw that various friends, acquaintances, and in a couple of cases random individuals were asking me if I could take their photograph. Since I’ve been unemployed since last April, my cameras have kept me focused and gotten me out of the house. I’ve set up photoshoots so I would have something to do during the day since I wasn’t getting calls to job interviews. I even made a little set on Flickr to show my favorite photos from each of the photoshoots and called it Unemployment. It’s been something to keep me smiling.
But as I was reading and responding to the emails and then looking back at some of the photoshoots I’ve done while unemployed, I saw a theme. A concept I could expand on. Something that felt like me. And instead of going to sleep since it was already 3am in the morning, I started laying out the concept on my laptop. I didn’t want the idea to get dismissed when I woke up the next morning as a foolhardy notion.

I’m seeing this idea to the end. The concept is simple: portraits of pretty faces in natural lighting situations. I need to go contact some folks about modeling for me but I have a few spots left for the photobook. If you are interested email, twitter, or facebook me.
